- The Fundamentals of Housing Policy and Governance: This series is directed to professionals new to careers in housing, either in community organizations or government that seek a grounding in the fundamentals and history of housing policy development in Canada’s market based system. It would also be of interest to non-housing professions working in related areas such as health, social development, economic development and planning.
The main objective of this program is to provide an overview of housing policy, programs and institutional arrangements and the overlap of housing issues and policies into other disciplines (non housing outcomes of housing policy). This course will examine the rationale for housing policy, the constitutional context and changing role of government levels, the nature of housing markets and housing need, policy and program alternatives used in Canada and their outcomes and how housing policy relates to urban and neighbourhood policy and to social and economic policy.
The course, offered jointly by the Centre for Continuing Education and the Centre on Governance, is taught in three separate modules each including lectures, extensive group discussion and a number of case study exercises. Modules should ideally be combined but can also be taken individually. For futher information please go to the site of the Centre for Continuing Education. - Thinking Culture: What are the current issues and trends affecting the arts, culture and heritage sector in Canada and abroad? What factors and strategies are taken into consideration when developing cultural policy? This series of forums will explore the complexities of the arts and culture sector and how it continues to develop and affect society. Experts and professionals from the field will share their insights on the meaning, evolution and impact of arts, culture and cultural policy. The forums will provide academics, civil servants, decision-makers, students, members of the cultural sector and those simply interested in learning about the field with an engaged area for learning, discussion and debate.
Presented by the Canadian Conference of the Arts in partnership with the University of Ottawa’s Centre for Continuing Education, Centre on Governance and School of Political Studies, the forums will be flexible in format, taking the shape of interactive lectures, debates, panels and presentations with opportunities for audience participation and exchange. Each forum will also be made available as a webcast on the Centre for Continuing Education’s website.
Audience: Open to the general public.
Location - Unless otherwise noted, all forums will take place at:
